The Canterberries - Blueberry Jam EP

Blueberry Jam is an EP comprised of a few main music styles including Indie, Funk and Ambient music. Curated over the final months that my band mates and I spent living in Canterbury, Uk. My role was as co Writer and musician but mainly as the single producer and engineer to the entire project. The recording process to the EP largely took place whilst the country was still tightly restricted due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, however I was fortunate enough to have access to a small church building that the university I was attending owned as part of their campus. The ambience of this space is clearly noticeable on tracks like "Waste My Time", "Still In The Fire" and "Precious Days".

This Project is concentrated on using foley and field recordings of sounds that could be heard in a typical day in your home, from having a shower in the morning to cooking meals. These sounds created the back drop of instrumentation, with dreamy atmospheric guitars, synthesisers and drones to set the tone of that portion of the day. I like to think of the track "Morning" as having a slow and hazy start after having slept in, and finally kickstarting your day late without any urgency, as many of us did during the several lockdowns. Where "Noon" is also drawn out and relaxed, turning into as sense of disorientation and disassociation from the world, seeing the same rooms whilst loosing track of time and days. "Night" shows a sense of sadness, maybe from not seeing those closest to you for extended periods of time with contrasting elements of restlessness.

Production, Sound Design, Impulse Response (Capture Of A Live Natural Space)
This piece was originally produced through the study of an authentic reverb within a church building. Mainly taking inspiration from Choral and Church music. To keep the richness of the building I recorded Impulse Responses (Recording of an Acoustic reverberation) to later apply to synthesised elements of the composition, As well producing extra sounds for the track using acoustic instruments recorded in the space.
This Composition was later adapted to be used for a Creative Dance piece titled "EMOVEMENT", exploring subjects such as emotion, mental health and vulnerability through movement. soundscapes elements where added to portray each of these motives and to excentuate moments of tension and release.

Pink Trees

Pink Trees was the result of collaboration of many individual artists I met in my first year of University. each of us adding our own musical background from Reggae, Jazz, Classical and even Spoken Word. This was one of my first projects where I engineered, mixed and mastered a full band composition. It was largely improvised during the recording sessions, with some very quick writing of ideas in the studio before hitting record. Something easily achieved when surrounded by great friends and musicians.
House Tone & Bystander
Drone Music, Sound Art, Soundscape

Both pieces here are examples of Drone music, however I would say that "House Tone"is equally sound art due to the method used to create it. That being the five primary tones heard throughout where generated through finding the standing wave frequency of five rooms in my home. This data was gathered through cycling through frequencies using a sine-wave oscillator until a certain frequency resonated strongly, creating a natural doubling of volume. This Process was then repeated throughout my home giving me five different tones to base the piece on.
"Bystander" was created through recording a performance of synthesisers and pads made from the sounds recorded from my bedroom window. I was trying to move away from laying out music on arrangement windows and focus more on arranging through improvisation and spontaneity.
